Escalation of the Coronavirus outbreak have led to higher demand for Ultra-Violet C (UVC) LED around the world. UVC as a germicidal light source can inactivates microorganisms by destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA with its short wavelength. The effective germicidal wavelength is between 200nm to 290 nm; shorter wavelength is more efficient but is also more damaging to the human body. The major chip manufacturers make 265-285nm as mainstream wavelength, because it can improve single chip’s radiometric power and increase in sterilization efficiency.
ProLight Opto announced UVC LED in the second half year of 2019 and introduced two different radiometric power of 2mW and 10mW, which are current mainstream power in the market. Furthermore, we provide the option of having viewing angle 120° or 35° with the narrower viewing angle can deliver more efficient sterilization.
UVC LED can be used in different applications such as water, air and food disinfection. Water disinfection is a well-known application in life, where water purifier previously used UV lamp as the disinfection method to archive the standard of drinking water. But with current market trend, UVC LED are becoming more popular in replacing UV lamps not only in water purifier but also in application such as dish washer, refrigerator and milk bottle disinfection box.
Due to the poor light penetration of UVC, the radiant power is difficult to penetrate the silicon lens, which may cause the silicon to age too quickly and crack. One of the ProLight’s new UVC LED adopts a special inorganic material, which can protect against humidity and avoid oxygen getting into the package to improve the reliability. Also, inorganic material allows better UVC power penetration without power loss, therefore ProLight’s UVC LED can maintain optimum release of radiant power.
